Notice of High-Security Seal Requirement on UP Rail
Please be advised that Union Pacific (UP) has announced a new requirement for High- Security Seals to be affixed to all Intermodal containers. UP anticipates this requirement to become effective Mid-2023.
You can find the official announcement from the UP and detailed information of the new requirement at the following link: UP New Seal Requirements
Per the announcement, UP has mandated that customers must provide, at a minimum, HV ISO/PAS 17712:2010 bolt or cable seal (⅛ minimum width), which must be approved by UP for theft deterrence. The requirement states that the high-security seal must be secured on the primary door hasp.
UP will reserve the right to reject any Intermodal Unit to which a proper seal has not been secured. UP will not be responsible for any claims of loss, damage or delay that may arise due to an Intermodal Unit not being secured with a proper seal at origin.
While this new requirement cannot guarantee 100% avoidance of risk, the goal is to provide the highest level of protection from unauthorized entry into intermodal containers or trailers across all modes of transport during the shipment’s journey, from point of loading to final destination.
Given the importance of adherence to the new requirement, ONE will not be responsible for any claims of loss, damage or delay that may arise due to an Intermodal Unit not being secured with a proper seal at origin as mandated by the UP, or if the seal is not properly affixed to the container.
We will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
We appreciate your business and thank you for choosing ONE.
